Dr. Peets’ Teaching Tip of the Week
Rather than looking to punish students for their negative behaviors, how do we incentivize students to engage in positive behaviors? Going back to my childhood, my dad always said that my job was to be a student and my paycheck would come every report card so long as my grades were up to his standards. This was also true of my behavior and attendance at school. Looking back, he set me up for success in life.
As educators, how can we do the same for our students? This week, I challenge you to reward students for their hard work, positive attitude, and presence in school. What can you do as individuals and teams to reward students for their good work? If you have ideas for me as to how to reward students for their hard work, positive attitude, and presence as an entire school, I welcome your thoughts!
