Dr. Peets’ Teaching Tip of the Week
On the weekend, I think about the message I want to send to all of you. I admit that I at times Google “Teaching Tips of the Week” when I need some inspiration. This week, I did just that and what came back was, “Teaching Tip of the Week - Finding Balance.” I chose to believe that God was talking to me through my computer rather than AI, but when that came up, it gave me shivers. Here is the wisdom I received from God, or “Professor Google” this week:
Finding Balance: Practical Week-by-Week Tips for a Fulfilling Life
Check in with yourself.
Prioritize Your Well-being.
Master Time Management.
Make Lists.
Learn to Say No.
Practice Gratitude.
Delegate and Collaborate.
Disconnect Regularly.
I am reminded of something I tell others regularly that I need to practice more myself. You cannot take care of anyone else unless you take care of yourself. We are living through some of the hardest years in the history of public education. We cannot save the world on our own, we need each other. This week, schedule time for yourself, check in with a colleague, say no to something so you can have more time with your family, and disconnect from the world from time to time. Remember to take care of yourself first, so that you can care for your students.
TCI Tip of the Week from Ange:
Emotional & Survival Brain Behaviors such as an inability to regulate emotions, overreaction to situations, impulsive outbursts, trauma re-enactment, defiance, inflexibility, self injury, withdrawal, and elopement. These are defined as Pain-based Behaviors.
SEL/MTSS Tip #5 - Self-Awareness:
Studies show that students (and adults) with a strong understanding of emotions perform better academically and report higher levels of well-being. People who are self-aware also have more positive relationships and engage in less risky behaviors. You can help build self-awareness in yourself, your colleagues, your students, family (and more!) using this journaling activity from Panorama Ed. (*Here is the link to MORE from Panorama)
