Dr. Peets’ Teaching Tip of the Week

“Everyone who remembers their own education remembers teachers, not methods and techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system.” ~Sidney Hook

This quote emphasizes the importance of relationships. I do not remember what my teachers taught me 30+ years ago, but I remember how they made me feel. Be their inspiration, and help them to find joy in learning!

From the Desk of Melissa Reeves:

Charlotte Miller instructs her students on how to write professional emails to staff. In these emails, students report their progress in reading class to the staff member of their choice. I always enjoy reading these emails and I reward the student who writes to me for making progress in reading with a treat they enjoy. Thinking of Charlotte and her students, Melissa has shared a resource, How to Write a Professional Email for Students that she found online and I thought it would be great to share it with our staffulty!

TCI Tip of the Week from Ange:

Remember when developing a relationship: attachment, reciprocity, progressive complexity and balance of power (Think of it as teaching someone to play catch, starting off in close proximity and gradually increasing space)

SEL/MTSS Tip #2

“SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.” ~ CASEL

When thinking about a core foundation and tier 1 (what we are doing for all) - how do we ensure that we are teaching, modeling AND practicing explicit SEL skills? We cannot ensure a solid foundation without the intentional instruction of these skills. (*Visual below from Panorama Ed).
